The sensibility of Alain Ducasse has finally arrived in Seoul.

Sapid, his restaurant built around a philosophy of vegetables, grains, and natural ingredients, has opened in the city. What makes this particular opening interesting is how it came together. The restaurant was conceived in collaboration with Korean fashion brand Wooyoungmi, and is located in the basement of the Wooyoungmi Itaewon flagship store.

The space reflects Wooyoungmi's aesthetic throughout. The atmosphere is calm and restrained, in keeping with Ducasse's naturalist philosophy. A large fabric installation wrapping the ceiling reinterprets minhwa, traditional Korean folk painting, drawn from the Wooyoungmi archive. Even the staff uniforms were designed by Wooyoungmi directly.

A restaurant where cuisine and fashion are connected this deeply is rare in Seoul. A vegetable-forward dining space, for that matter, is still uncommon in the city. The fact that a space with this much considered intention now exists here feels like something worth noting.
