A Quiet Afternoon at Shelly Beach

Sydney has far more to offer than just Bondi Beach. The city is lined with beaches, and locals tend to have their own favorites — ones they return to quietly, without much fanfare.

Shelly Beach is mine.

I first came across Manly Beach by chance during my 2024 visit, catching a glimpse of it while taking a ferry to somewhere else entirely. The elegant houses along the shore, the unhurried atmosphere, the water — it was the kind of place that stays with you. I knew I wanted to come back.

When I looked into it further, I found that Shelly Beach sits just a short walk from Manly. And when I finally visited, it felt even quieter and more beautiful than I had expected. People swimming, others lying on the sand, no particular rush to be anywhere. Sitting there and watching, I felt my own pace slow down almost without noticing.

If you find yourself in Sydney, Shelly Beach is worth the journey. It may not be the most famous beach in the city, but that is precisely what makes it feel special.
