In its 2026 World's Best Awards, Travel + Leisure crowned Patina Osaka the world's No. 1 hotel, just one year after opening. I read the news and didn't think twice: this was where the trip would begin.

It's Capella Hotel Group's first property in Japan, and the pedigree shows. Look closely at the lobby, the guest rooms, the corridors, and you keep finding details you missed on the way in. That's half the pleasure of staying here.

Check-in takes place on the 20th floor, and the moment you step out of the elevator, Osaka Castle fills the window. No high-rise stands in the way, so the view runs clean to the horizon. My room was the Castle View type, and it earned its name: the castle stayed in sight from the bed, from the terrace, even from the bathroom. Between the rooms and the staff, this hotel wears its World's Best title well.

The dining rooms held up their end too. P72 on the first floor is where the hotel's philosophy comes together: natural textures, warm wood, soft lighting, and a menu, from mains to dessert, that leans the same way, nature-forward and wellness-minded. The restaurant on 19 impressed too, on interiors, menu, and flavor alike.

Still, nothing moved me like the chapel. Patina's reputation for weddings makes sense once you've stood inside it. Open the partition and Osaka Castle appears in full view. Reason enough to imagine what a ceremony here must feel like. For a moment, I caught myself wanting to get married in that exact spot.
